My blogs try to counter the misinformation that I see spreading around Facebook groups about Costa Rica as well as the internet, in general.

This is one of the big reasons I wrote my book, Moving to Costa Rica Simplified (grab your copy here).

You’d be surprised how many people think Costa Rica is an island. I’m not sure where they think that island is… if they’re mixing it up with Puerto Rico, or maybe it’s a Caribbean Island… or maybe it’s off somewhere near Bali. (all of those are indeed “islands”).

But my dear friends, Costa Rica is not an island.

So where is Costa Rica located?

In Central America, between Nicaragua (to our north) and Panama (to the Southeast).

Here’s another little fun fact:

While we are in the Northern Hemisphere, above the equator, our seasons are actually reversed. And… we only have 2 seasons! Rainy and Dry. Or Winter and Summer. So for much of Costa Rica, the “winter” season is May(ish)-November(ish) while the “summer” season is December – April. Yep. it’s “summertime” here when we celebrate the holidays and New Year’s. Kids are also out of (public) school from December-January.

Note: the Caribbean side and some other regions around the country do have different weather patterns… so if that’s where you want to live, read this blog here:

Rain in January?!
