When you decide to move abroad, one of the questions that will likely be swirling around your head is:
What should I do with all my stuff?
You will probably want to keep a lot of it… sentimental attachments and all.
But there’s only so much you can take with you on a plane. And shipping a container can be expensive. Plus, some of the things you might bring, might not do well, wherever you’re going. I have a friend who brought very expensive brand name leather items. Leather does not do well in the tropics (picture lots and lots of mold on thousand dollar designer bags).
And the catch 22 is – You may not be able to find some items in Costa Rica AND / OR it may also be super expensive to ship items here, once you’re moved. Amazon next day isn’t available and between the cost of shipping and the import fees, you could be looking at spending a whole lot of money.
Lastly, many rentals in Costa Rica and even homes that are sold might actually come furnished. Which could be a good thing, but also, sometimes, the quality of what you are living with isn’t what you’re used to. I invested in an “alternative down” featherbed from the very first month that I lived in Costa Rica. Because the mattresses in the rentals were so, so gross.
So what should you bring? Reach out and let’s figure it out together. That’s what I’m here for!
