My blogs try to counter the misinformation that I see spreading around Facebook groups about Costa Rica as well as the internet, in general.

This is one of the big reasons I wrote my book, Moving to Costa Rica Simplified (grab your copy here).

August 15th is Mother’s Day here in Costa Rica. It’s associated with an event in the Catholic Church, Assumption of the Virgin Mary. It’s actually a national holiday, which means that people who are working will get paid extra.

As I was prepping this blog, I was thinking about the image I wanted to use and it reminded me of how, for the last 12+ years, I’ve been carrying around an oversized Ziploc bag filled with childhood photos.

Which then made me think again about…

  1. What do we really need to bring with us when we move abroad AND
  2. How difficult it is to let go of the personal mementos that we collect over the decades of our lives.

It’s really quite silly that I’ve been dragging around this Ziploc bag for the last 12 years and 17 rentals. And yet it’s just so hard to let it go. Perhaps if I had a permanent home, some of these items would be displayed. But many would likely still remain in the bag.

I also have two friends who are storing several boxes for me in California and Oregon. LOL Yes, 12 years later they are still hanging on to my personal belongings in their garages.

Today, I just want to acknowledge how hard of a decision it can be for us when we’re sorting through our memories. And to remind you that when you’re packing up your life, to do what is best for you, in that moment.

And if you’re a mom – human, cat, dog, plant, or any other type of mom – Happy Mother’s Day.
